COACHESBruce Perrault Bruce has been coaching speed skating with the Toronto Speed Skating Club for five years. In that time, he has helped introduce the sport to many skaters, including his son and daughter. Bruce's greatest enjoyment in coaching comes from seeing participants from a wide variety of skating backgrounds come into the sport, start to learn about its unique challenges and rewards, and begin to thrive. Though Bruce's son continues to speed skate with TSSC, he harbours the wish that his daughter will return from the dark side (a.k.a. hockey). Bruce usually coaches on Sundays during the first hour. Kendra Elliott Kendra was introduced to short track speed skating in 1997, a year after her younger brother joined, in Mission B.C. She then moved to Ontario in 2001 and joined the Gloucester Speed Skating club; it was here where she was introduced to long track speed skating. Kendra competitively skated for 6 years before going off to college. She has attended Canadian championships, as well as North American Championships for both short track and long track speed skating. She also has attended BC Winter Games and Ontario Winter Games. During these 6 years (and throughout college, when time permitted) she actively volunteered her time assisting coaches with beginner skaters, and doing various other club level activities. Kendra has been involved with officiating, during regional, provincial and national competitions in positions not limited to timing, place judging, and clerking. In the winter of 2007 she was introduced to the Toronto Speed Skating Club, and now volunteers her time as a coach for both beginner and intermediate skaters. Kendra thoroughly enjoys coaching and witnessing the skaters achieving all of their short term/long term goals. She hopes to obtain her Level 1 coaching status early in the new year of 2009. Kendra is looking forward to years to come with the sport of speed skating, with hopes of maybe competing again someday (fitness level permitting!). Kendra usually coaches on Sundays during the second hour. Will Wallace (Head Coach) Will has been involved in speed skating since 1998, when his son wanted to give the sport a try after watching it in the Nagano Olympics. His daughter started skating five years ago, and the two still enjoy the sport; Will started skating himself a couple of years ago. He has served as club president for the past number of years and has been on the board since 2001. He is shifting his focus this season to coaching, and is thrilled to watch the club's skaters develop. Will usually coaches on Thursdays. |
