Toronto skaters and alumni continue to impress at National meets

November 28th 2016

Toronto skaters and Toronto alumni had a significant impact at the Canadian National Qualifiers skated in Chicoutimi this past weekend. The National Qualifier is a key meet in the National calendar as it is the entry point to both the Canadian Junior Championships (top 30 juniors) and the Canadian Senior Championships (top 16 overall).

Skaters currently training in Toronto at the meet included Mika Sun – 38th place and Adrian Rudy – 44th place. Mika’s performance was significant as she was one of the youngest skaters at the meet and therefore was competing against much more seasoned competition.

We also had great performances from Toronto skaters currently skating at out of province training centres. These included Gibson Himbeault – 8th place (and a bronze medal in the 1000 m!), Nils Engholm – 35th place and Drake Foo – 50th place.

Finally, we had amazing performances from two Toronto alumni: Renee Steenge – 1st place, winning every one of her races, and Juliette Brindamour who finished in 10th place.

As a result of these performances Gibson, Renee and Juliette will compete in the Canadian Senior Championships in January and those three plus possibly Mika and Adrian will compete in the Canadian Junior Championships in December.

Congratulations to all on an excellent meet!
